Dick’s Sporting Goods will open its Shoppes at Belmont store on Friday, March 2, the Pittsburgh-based retailer says.
The grand opening will last that whole weekend, the retailer announced on its Facebook page.
Store hours will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. On Sunday, March 4, hours will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Festivities during that weekend will include giveaways, drawings and skills challenges, as well as an appearance by Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks on Sunday, March 3 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Merchandise in the 51,000-square-foot store — the second largest at Belmont, trailing only Target’s 123,000 square feet — will include sports equipment, workout clothing, footwear and camping equipment.
The store will have about 80 employees.
The Shoppes at Belmont are at Fruitville Pike and Route 30, opposite Red Rose Commons, where Dick’s main rival, Sports Authority, closed a store in July 2016. Burlington opened a store in that space in September.
Dick’s, founded in 1948 by Dick Stack with $300 borrowed from his grandmother’s cookie jar, has 675 stores. Dick’s son Ed is chairman and CEO today.
Dick’s will be the second tenant to open at Belmont, based on openings announced so far. It will follow Chick-fil-A (Jan. 10). After Dick’s will be Target (March 7) and Nordstrom Rack (March 8).
